Biography

Karina Roque practices immigration law exclusively.

I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin in 2016 in International Relations and Global Studies and minored in Latin American Studies.

During my time in law school, I clerked at a private law firm in Houston, Texas where I started gaining experience in family petitions and deportation defense. I would assist my supervising attorneys with I-601, I-601A, and I-212 waivers. In addition, I assisted as a translator and would translate for clients who had pending asylum cases in immigration court and explained the court and appeal process to them.

In law school, I was a member of the Institute of International and Immigration Law, an organization at my law school. I had the opportunity to volunteer in workshops with this organizations with various organizations in Houston. These organizations included Catholic Charities, Human Rights First, and Baker Ripley. At these various workshops, I assisted attorneys in interviewing minors who were in deportation proceedings and participated in citizenship workshops.

Once I became a licensed attorney, I worked at private law firms in Houston, Texas. I have represented clients in immigration court, asylum interviews, and with family petitions. I also have experience with seeking parole and bond requests for detained individuals at various detention centers throughout the United States.

I am first generation Mexican-American. Both of my parents immigrated to the U.S. from Jalisco, Mexico and I was born and raised in Northwest Dallas. I am a first-generation college graduate and the first attorney in my family.
