Biography
Katie Hawkins is a former educator, having taught children of all ages, races, and economic backgrounds in Guatemala, Hong Kong, and rural South Louisiana.
Ms. Hawkins grew up in Central Illinois and attended high school and college in North Louisiana. Ms. Hawkins graduated summa cum laude from Louisiana Tech University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in English and Creative Writing. After watching several of her students struggle amid various legal battles, Ms. Hawkins began her legal education. Ms. Hawkins graduated from Texas A&M University School of Law as a two-time Equal Access to Justice Fellow and National Mock Trial Semifinalist, having practiced with a 3L Bar Card at Texas A&M University Family Law and Benefits Clinic since January 2017.
Ms. Hawkins began her legal career immersed in family law. In an effort to serve families of Texas better, she used her immigration experience from her internship at Texas RioGrande Legal Aid in Laredo, Texas, and her experience communicating with and representing whole families to begin her career in immigration. Ms. Hawkins now enjoys representing clients on a wide range of immigration matters.
Ms. Hawkins has experience writing and handling various legal claims, appeals, and litigation. As immigration is a field of law which changes often and holds many opportunities for improvement, Ms. Hawkins is excited to challenge unfairness, seek justice, and advocate for her clients.
Ms. Hawkins lives in Grandview, Texas, with her husband and son. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, reading, writing poetry, playing jazz clarinet, and exploring the zoos and museums in DFW with her family.
