The Senate infrastructure bill that included a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, TPS holders, and agricultural workers, had another setback yesterday. Under the Senate rules, an official must determine whether the immigration provisions relate somehow to the infrastructure goals of the proposed law. This official, known as the Senate parliamentarian (a former immigration attorney), said that the immigration provisions were broader than the policies of the bill, and so she rejected the proposal. From here, the Senate can overrule the official’s decisions or come up with alternative proposals.
