The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office will begin following a new policy for prosecutorial discretion, prioritizing deportations of certain immigrants on Monday, April 25. The policy aims to focus the department’s limited resources on key priorities. Those priorities include non-citizens who present a threat to national security, a threat to public safety, or a threat to border security.
This policy falls in line with the memo signed by Principal Legal Advisor Kerry E. Doyle on April 3, which defines the three priorities for deportations. This memo also follows orders under “Guidelines for the Enforcement of Civil Immigration Law” issued by Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas on September 30, 2021.
